- Clinton’s Ditch -
- The Saga of the Erie Canal -
Written by Ric Chesser
Produced by Steamer No.10 Theatre
Clinton’s Ditch is an hour long production which brings 200 years of Erie Canal history to life. Join Jacky MaGee as she goes back through time to learn about the canal. Accompanied by her history teacher, Jacky sees the debate over whether there should even be a canal, its eventual construction, and finally even joins her ancestors as they travel along the canal. The show explores the waterway that opened the American West to trade and settlement, securing New York City’s position as dominant port-of-entry and financial capital for the United States.
Clinton’s Ditch is designed to work with the New York State Education Department curriculum on Erie Canal History for the fourth and eighth grades. It satisfies NYS ELA Standards 1-4, and Social Studies Standards 1-5. Touring New York in April and May each year, the show is touted by teachers as an excellent review that brings the material to life. But it’s not just for kids…we make education FUN!
